Missing Woman from Welshpool Found Safe and Well

On Tuesday 23rd July, NEWSAR were called to assist in a search for woman from Welshpool, who Dyfed-Powys Police officers were becoming increasingly concerned for.

The woman, in her sixties, left her home early on Monday morning and, although a regular walker, there was some concern that she had not returned after the normal few hours.

The search was focused on areas around the A458, as there had been some possible sightings reported to the police during Monday the 22nd.

20 Mountain Rescue volunteers from North East Wales Search and Rescue, including some members of South Snowdonia and Aberdovey Mountain Rescue teams, searched country lanes, farms, open fields and woodlands around the area.

Information fed back from volunteer search teams, coupled with details gathered by Mountain Rescue search managers, moved to focus the search to an area further north.

Chris Griffiths, NEWSAR Deputy Team Leader and on duty Search Manager said “It was a great effort from all involved and a good opportunity to work with colleagues from Aberdovey and South Snowdonia teams as well as Dyfed – Powys Police.

There was lots of help and support from the local community, a really good collective effort.

I would, also, like to extend my thanks to the staff at Llanfair Caereinion leisure centre, where our search control was sited, for their support.”

Dyfed Powys Police officers found the missing woman early Tuesday evening, fit and well. She had been walking all day Monday, most of the night and throughout Tuesday.
