Donation in memory of Darren Macfarlane
On the evening of Monday the 9th November 2015 NEWSAR volunteer team members were called by North Wales Police to assist in the search for Darren Macfarlane who had been reported missing from the Trevor area near Llangollen. We searched late that night and for much of the next day. The search was on the land around the area and in the River Dee in challenging and hazardous conditions. Despite many hours of searching sadly we were unable to find Darren. The North Wales Police underwater team continued the search in the following days, but still without success.
The whole team was sad to hear that Darren was found deceased in the River Dee three weeks later. He was several kilometres away near Erbistock.
On Wednesday 20th January 2016 father and son, Ian and Gavin Macfarlane visited NEWSAR base and presented a cheque for £1000 to the team. The generous donation was the result of money collected by the family in recognition of the team’s efforts in trying to locate Gavin’s brother Darren when he went missing.
The photo below shows Ian and Gavin presenting the cheque to the assembled team members after we had given them a warm welcome to our base. (click on the picture for a larger version)
