CALLOUT 21/23: Walker lost in the Berwyn Mountain

Dyfed-Powys Police called the team shortly after 3pm. A lone walker, with her dog, was a bit geographically challenged high in the Berwyn Mountains. The weather was very poor with falling snow, which limited visibility.

The walker did exactly the right thing and called for help. Our first responder used the position given from her phone to provide route advice, which was followed. Unfortunately phone signal is very poor in that area and contact was lost on the descent back to Pystyll Rhaeadr.

Given the seriousness of the weather and the loss of contact, a full team callout was issued in case the walker didn't arrive safely back in the valley and a search was needed. We also called on assistance from our neighbouring teams South Snowdonia Search & Rescue Team and Aberdyfi Search & Rescue Team.

Our first team members arrived at the waterfall car park and met the missing walker and her dog as she reached the road. At this point all three teams stood down.

Thanks to South Snowdonia SRT, Aberdyfi SRT and to Phil the cafe owner who provided landline phone access.
