48/11 Team Callout – Colwyn Bay area
The team was called out on Monday 12/12/11 at 14:30 to co-ordinate the rescue of a casualty in the vicinity of Colwyn Bay. The casualty was away from a public road and not easily evacuated by a normal Ambulance crew.
A number of NEWSAR Team members made their way to the site of the incident. A Welsh Ambulance Service crew also attended and provided casualty care.
The NEWSAR Incident Commander decided to request assistance from the RAF for possible helicopter evacuation due to the location, the worsening weather and the nature of the injuries the casualty had sustained This would allow the casualty to be evacuated much more quickly than a “stretcher carry” by NEWSAR team members.
An RAF 22sqn “C” Flight Sea King helicopter attended. NEWSAR team members and the Ambulance team assisted the Helicopter winchman to package the injured person for lifting by stretcher. At just after 16:00 the casualty was winched aboard the helicopter for the short flight to hospital.
