67/19 – 29/12/19

A lady was out for a walk on Meliden Mountain when she slipped and fell, badly injuring her ankle. North Wales Police requested our help to extract her from the location. Team members provided pain relief and immobilised the ankle before she was transferred to the road in one of our Landrovers. We are grateful for the assistance of a passing doctor. She was then handed over to a Welsh Ambulance Service crew for transport to hospital. Get well soon!

66/19 – 14/12/19

North Wales Police requested our assistance to help 5 men who had slid off a snow covered road between Bala and Llangynog. Their vehicle was in a precarious position and they were unable to be recovered normally due to the road conditions.
We sent two Landrovers and drivers who picked up the group and took them to a place of safety, where they could organise their own onward travel. The remainder of the team was on standby to assist if more resources had been required.

65/19 – 7/12/19

At 4pm Dyfed Powys Police contacted the team to help a group of four adults and two children who had lost their route off Moel Sych in the Berwyn Mountains.
We used PhoneFind to locate them and our First Responder was able to provide directions back to the path. Unfortunately that area has very poor mobile coverage so we then lost contact. Team members were sent to Pistyll Rhaeadr in case the group hadn’t found the path. The first team members to arrive met the group on the road and we then stood down.
We were provided a What 3 Words location from the group that proved wildly inaccurate (not in the UK). If you have a problem in the mountains of the UK please use the FREE OS Locate App to provide an Ordnance Survey Grid Reference to the emergency services.

64/19 – 2/12/19

We asked our colleagues from Search and Rescue Dogs Association (SARDA Wales) to assist and brought the rest of the team to standby while our Incident Commander gained further information. While he was doing this the good news came in the the man had been found safe and well by NWP Officers and we stood down.

We were called regarding a person stuck on sea cliffs. We identified that this was best dealt with by HM Coastguard and by OVMRO, so with the agreement of North Wales Police the call was transferred.

59/19 – 1/11/19

North Wales Police requested our help shortly after dark last night when a lone walker called to say she was unsure of her location and stuck somewhere up on the Eglwyseg above Llangollen.
We used some phone tech to find out where she was. This turned out to be quite a way from a road and near some big cliffs. Because of that she was asked to stay put and a small party walked to pick her up while other team members waited by the road in case a stretcher carry became necessary.
Happily that wasn’t needed and we were back at the road before 8:30pm.
Rather a wet night, so this is the best picture we have.

Shortly before 10pm on Tuesday night we were called by North Wales Police to assist two persons who were “geographically challenged” on Moel Famau after the onset of darkness and getting disorientated in the cloud and rain.

We used some phone technology to locate their position and then were able to provide directions to where we could collect them with a team vehicle. They were found unhurt and returned to their vehicle.
We know lots of you will think “you can’t get lost on Moel Famau”, but we know otherwise! When the cloud and mist rolls in and it starts to go dark everything starts to look the same and it is easy to get mislaid.

The team carried out initial treatment, including splinting the leg and providing pain relief. She was driven directly to hospital in Wrexham.

Get well soon.

43/19 – 24/7/19

As the weather closed in they made a great decision to ask for assistance rather than reascend into the heavy rain and low cloud. After identifying their location it was straightforward to direct them to a place of safety where they could be collected. After a quick check over from one of our Casualty Carers they were returned to their vehicle so they could make their way home.
