Charlie has arrived!

Our new Incident Control Vehicle is a MAN TGE 3.180 4x4 SB. A N Richards Ltd. helped us to obtain the van from MAN and Simoco Wireless Solutions helped us with our radios. The van was converted by Vehicle Conversion Specialists (VCS), which collaborated with us to draw up plans and turn them into a specialist control vehicle that fits the needs of a busy search and rescue team.

Our new vehicle will be an asset to the team and will be deployed alongside our Land Rover Defender emergency response vehicles to a range of call outs.

Our new vehicle has been named “Charlie” in memory of a team member’s son who passed away in 2020, aged 18 months. Charlie’s dad said ‘… when it was announced by my teammates that the new vehicle was to be named Charlie in memory of our son, it was an emotional moment. Knowing that Charlie's name will go with the team every time the vehicle is deployed to help those is need is an amazing legacy for him and gives Sarah and I great comfort knowing that "Charlie" will be helping people for many years to come.’

NEWSAR Team Leader, Chris Griffiths said ‘Charlie has become a reality because of the project co-ordination driven by Gill Brailsford, our Fundraising Officer, and Deputy Team Leader Del Strugnell. Many have supported us along the way. The generosity of all who have donated to the project has been amazing. I can never thank you all enough. What we now have is a wonderful, purpose-built Incident Control Vehicle that should serve us for many years. I am extremely proud of our Team, of what we do and the way in which we go about our business. Our success is built upon hard work, trust and from having respect for each other. The naming of the vehicle "Charlie" was never in doubt… just another example of our “NEWSAR family” at its most caring.’

We will be at Go Outdoors, Saltney, Chester on Saturday 8th July between 09.00–13.00 with our new vehicle. Please come along and say hello to some of the team and have a look around the vehicle.

Thank you to everyone who donated and supported NEWSAR with this project. We raised £80,000 from public donations. NEWSAR is a local charity and does not receive any Government funding; everyone is a volunteer, no one is paid. We are currently fundraising to add a new stretcher and wheel to the vehicle.
